Brothers and sisters, it will sadden you to learn this, but there are still some among us who are ashamed of their heritage.  There are those who believe that the stigma of a “comic book reader” is not something that they are willing to live with.  The withering looks, the “Oh, sure, I read comic books when I was in middle school!” comments, the bemused glances from the world out there that does now KNOW, does not APPRECIATE, and cannot COMPREHEND the fantastic and thought-provoking medium that comic books have become. 

But we are not to be that way.  Comic books are one of the best-kept secrets in modern culture, and we know this!  This is not a secret we should keep to ourselves – this is a message that should be shouted from the rooftops!

Henceforth, Clem’s Incorporated (that’s our business name, sorry, not yet publicly traded yet) will be pleased to participate in an annual rite of fall, the Reading Comics In Public Day! Begun just two short years ago, it was a tradition begun to encourage comic book (and graphic novel) lovers everywhere to publicize their love of the hobby!  It has been proudly celebrated both near and far, and is slowly becoming a noteworthy holiday for comic lovers.  Just Google “Read Comics In Public Day” to find pictures and recaps of celebrations past.

This year’s date will fall on Tuesday, August 28th.  Now, I know it sounds incredibly complicated, but it’s really quite simple.  Take a look at this special illustrated walk-through:

But here at Clem’s, we want to encourage your participation in this special day, in a special way.  So here’s what we’re doing:

1) Have a picture taken of yourself reading a comic book or graphic novel in public.  Of course, we prefer that it was one you purchased at our store, but there’s really no way to prove that. 

2) Upload the picture to our Facebook Page, and make sure that your full name is somehow attached to it, so we know who it is. 

3) You will AUTOMATICALLY be allowed to pick up a FREE COMIC BOOK (valued at $3.99 or less) on your next visit to the store! 

4) And not only that, but everyone who uploads a picture will be entered into a random giveaway of a $50 gift certificate to Clem’s!!

Pictures must be uploaded by midnight on Thursday, August 30th, just to make sure everyone has a chance to get their picture in.  After that, we will draw a name for the $50 certificate.  If it sounds too easy, that might be because it is!  Just make sure you take a picture of your Reading Comics In Public activity, and upload it to our Facebook page!
