Some bits of news and links regarding some of the games we carry at Clem’s!

image Wells Expeditions recently announced that their online club for Arcane Legions, referred to as the Centurions Club.  is now free for all users.  This used to be a monthly subscription service that allowed AL players to use the unit builder, a handy and unique tool for customizing the armies that you wanted to use in the game.  The Club also offered special rare figures to members only for purchase, but now those figures will be available for purchase for everyone, and probably making their way into shops also.  If you’re an Arcane Legions player, it’s definitely worth the sign-up:  visit http://arcanelegions.com/ to take a look around.  The Centurion Club exclusive figures are already in the public marketplace; not sure if the unit builder has been thrown open yet.

The second set in the Magic The Gathering: Zendikar block is called Worldwake, and it’s set to debut on Friday, February 5th.  Which is cool but presents a problem for our store in hosting a release party.  You see, Friday and Saturday are both already booked solid for release events from just about every store in the Lansing area that plays, sells, or has ever heard of Magic.  Which left us with Sunday to host our release.  Well, lo and behold, Sunday, February 7th is the Superbowl.  And even though some of our Magic players could care less about football, I’m guessing that most of our Magic players at least have an invitation to a Superbowl party where they can get free wings, beer, and pretend that they like football.   Soooo… we’re going to bypass a release party this time around and just do a booster draft for our first Thursday meeting afterward.  That would be Thursday, February 11th.  But we will have Worldwake singles to sell just as soon as we can tear open a couple of boxes on the 5th.

image This needs to be mentioned just because it concerns the board game company Days of Wonder.  Many board game companies, like Mayfair and Rio Grande, have so many European adaptations that they bring to market, in addition to their own designers, that they will release 6 or 7 new games every quarter.  Days of Wonder is different.  If we get 2 new Days of Wonder games in a year, it’s been a good year.  And what makes the wait even more unbearable for DOW fans is that all of their games are reputed now to be of the highest quality.  The board, the pieces and other components, the game design and mechanics – simply put, we sell Days of Wonder games like snowcones in July.  Well, the wait for the next DOW game is over – it’s called Mystery Express and it will be here in April.  Surf over to their website to look over their marketing for it.

Finally, regarding Heroclix, Wizkids has announced a complete and utter sellout of the Hammer of Thor set, with absolutely no plans to go back to press on it.  For now.  I’m sure they’ll show up in some special packaging or future 2-figure packs or something.  But for now, it looks like what we have left of Hammer of Thor on the shelf (not much!) is all we’re going to be able to get.  For Wizkids, this represents a monumental success, and proof that the Heroclix brand still has the power to sell.  Which is good news for all of us – anticipation for the Brave and the Bold set is high, and hopefully we’ll keep this momentum going.

A bunch more board games just hit our store today, so come check them out!  We’ll do a post with the newer games spotlight here in the next few days.
