Too much cool stuff for Tweeting
I just saw too many interesting things on the web today to send out a bunch of random Tweets or Facebook messages… so for those of you who have wistfully longed for the old posts that were chock-full of links and random bits of comic-and-game related news, today will be a magical trip back in time. And it all starts with…
DC Comics. DC apparently aimed to dominate the week in comic news, with a big announcement each day of the week. So here’s the quick rundown:
The next crossover-type of series from the publisher will be the War of the Supermen, presumably telling the story of some non-friendliness between us Earthlings and the large population of Kryptonians who appeared on the scene a couple of years ago. Furthermore, comics/TV writer Marc Guggenheim will take over the scripting chores on Action Comics. Next up: DC will also publish a 7-issue series next year called “Legacies” that does a five-generation history of the DCU, first issue by Andy & Joe Kubert! Along with that, DC will finally release a fresh 12-issue “Whos Who in the DC Universe” series. Long overdue. How about some Batman announcements? Bruce Wayne will return in 2010 (you HAD to see that coming) but in the meantime, he’ll be meandering back slowly, as he is stuck in time. Grant Morrison will be writing the mini-series that finds Batman alive in various eras, each drawn by a different artist, until we finally get him back. Meanwhile, Grant Morrison’s ongoing Bat-title, Batman and Robin, will welcome Andy Clarke as artist beginning with issue #10. And finally (take a breath), Wonder Woman will get her long-sought issue #600 next year.
Marvel Comics. Well, compared to all that stuff that DC has been unleashing on the unsuspecting public this week, there’s not as much to say here. But Iron Man will be launching a new ongoing title in 2010 to coincide with the new movie (natch), called Iron Man Legacy. And for some entertaining reading, in which Marvel publisher Dan Buckley admits that $3.99 pricing may be dragging down the sales of the bottom third of their titles, and MAY or MAY NOT have just inadvertently announced that Matt Fraction will be the new writer on the ongoing Thor, click here.
In Game News, or more appropriately, games awards news, Small World (Days of Wonder) was given the Game of the Year award from Games Magazine, just announced. Other games making their list: Le Havre, as best new Advanced Strategy game, Roll Through The Ages as best new Family Game, and Dominion as best new Family Strategy Game. See the complete list here.
If you’re wondering where exactly in time Batman is currently, you can check out his Twitter feed. He appears to be currently setting Biblical history right. I guess, actually, this is Bruce Wayne’s Twitter feed, since Batman as Dick Grayson is still kicking butt in modern continuity. A better question is how Bruce is accessing Twitter from his time spent in the BC era.
The elusive appearance of Cerebus in the pages of Spawn #10 has never been reprinted. Exhausting never-ending discussions of rights issues have prevented this stuff to ever see print again. Until now! The next Spawns Origins Collection Vol 1 will finally include the Dave Sim pages.
Twilight’s Kellan Lutz wants to be Captain America. Please, God, no.
