New Comics 11/25/09
A few quick notes about some of the books that came in today:
An update on all the books associated with those funny plastic rings: Second prints are in for Booster Gold #26 (orange ring), Doom Patrol #4 (yellow ring) and Rebels #10 (indigo ring). We’re still hanging on to some stock of Adventure Comics #4 (blue ring) and today we received Blackest Night #5 (green ring). All of these rings are given to you for FREE when you purchase the associated issues.
We are currently out of stock, though, on Outsiders #24 (sapphire ring), and dwindling quickly on JLA #39 (red ring). If either of these are OUT when you come in to pick them up, you have two options: you can pre-pay for those issues when we get them back in (probably second prints), and you’ll get the ring right there at the counter. OR you can preorder them (but not pre-pay), and you’ll receive the ring and the issue at the same time when they come in.
So, long story short, we DO have all the rings, but we DON’T have all the issues right now. But you can still get your rings.
It may get lost in the monster shipping week, but take note of the re-launch of Powers today! This series was entirely the brainchild of Brian Michael
Bendis, way back before he was the writer behind all things Marvel, and though it’s gone through two volumes already, Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming (Mice Templar) are vowing that the gritty concept remains the same, and that if you ever enjoyed Powers before, you’ll really enjoy it now. It’s the basic idea behind the Gotham Central series that was so good, un-powered cops operating in a world with superpowered heroes. There are about 12 volumes of trade paperbacks of the previous material on this series, and it’s all fantastic – it’s also been picked up for a pilot TV show at the FX network. So, a new #1 on the shelves today – if you’ve never read Powers before, do yourself a big favor and pick this up!
Another series starting up today is Jericho – that’s right, the latest cult favorite TV show to get canned by the networks is reaching out to comic books to continue its stories (see: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel). Season Three (the first two seasons were on television, and now DVD), issue #1, arrives today, and it’s got the same team of writers working on it as were on the show. The civil war that was brewing during much of season 2 will now be allowed to break out, and the medium of comic books should allow for the original vision to be fully presented without the limitations of a production budget!
Plus, wanted to mention two trade paperbacks that I’m anxious to read: Incognito, the crime-superhero mini-series from the creative team behind the book Criminal, and Chew, the series about the detective who can solve crimes by snacking on carcasses, is now also available in softcover!
